![]() ![]() It's just the two of us onstage, so it's not as though you can say, "Hey, you know, tonight we're just going to let the drummer take it a little bit more tonight," or "Hey, we're going to bounce this off the bass player." It's the two of us, and that synergy was something we were really known for. That's what happened when we were on the road in Europe, and it was heartbreaking to have to make those hard decisions together that it was better, at the moment, to take a break and take a breath and try and recalibrate, because no one wants to see a show like that. How do you think that worked? I would think that would be impossible to do, to put that aside. It was like, if we lost the language between the two of us offstage, we could always find the language onstage. But the thing that was always really magical was - regardless of how angry we were - we still could find those moments of fun and beauty onstage together. Bands have disagreements and arguments all the time, and then the show must go on. It was a gradual build, I feel like, and that's common. Was that tension visible onstage, do you think? People watching - would have noticed that? And I think that breakneck pace broke us a little bit. Over time, being on the road, that can be a long haul, and we agreed to a really breakneck pace, both of us. There was always so much ease involved in working with John Paul, and I feel like that translated in the music, and that translated in our live stage performances. But the reality is, I'm still trying to make sense of it myself. I wish I had a very concrete and eloquent answer for you about what happened. Ordered it right around the time all the benchmarks came out. Updated profile to reflect current machines and GPUs.Įnded up getting the Mac Studio M1 Max (refurb price was hard to say no to). The M2 is a relatively ‘meh’ upgrade if you are on an M1 Pro or Max Its a difficult one, if 32Gb is your limit price wise regardless, the M2 Mini pro and the Max M1 Studio are so close, I think for same price I think I’d go for an M1 Max Studio with the binned 24 Core GPU and 1Tb storage. I do get crashes in SU (and only SU) but thats just SU and I get them regardless of whether I have 1 small doc open or several large ones. Just having a quick look at my current memory usage. I’m doubtful whether the clock bump and memory bandwidth (although obviously better) would have any perceived real world perf difference in Sketchup, more memory definitely would (over 16Gb), its going to rely on swap a ton with 16Gb and although the SSD’s are fast on the Max, nowhere near unified memory. Never really run out of memory, I have pretty large models that contain high-res textures and p/counts and usually have SU/Layout, TwinMotion, Adobe Substance Sampler, Safari etc open, very rarely have memory problems, if I do its normally TwinMotion but I do hit the ceiling. I use an M1 Max w/32Gb (I just couldn’t afford 64, although I will next time). Just get as much memory as you can afford. There is about a 300Mhz bump on the single thread clock M1 → M2. The fact that for a small bump of performance (between mini and studio) you have to sell a second organ is not worth it in my opinion. Macs are good, I like Macs, but PCs are cheaper and easier to optimize. ![]() I realize it’s not the answer you seek, but you have a fine machine, most likely limited by the incompatible OS for now. For 2k+ €, you’ll get a solid machine with twin graphic cards (optimized for renderers like vray) that you’ll be able to upgrade later. But yeah, if you really want more, you’ll have to go studio. Real question is, how much RAM do you want ? I reckon a 32 Gb mac mini will do really fine (when I see what I can do with a 16gb M1). And 3d softwares are using a single processor to work, no matter if you have 7, 8 or 19. I mean, it’s still a 3,2 Ghz processor, more cores but same clock. My advice is to wait for SU23 to release before selling a kidney and changing your gear. Now, if you REALLY want to change your gear, beware, you’ll be stuck with a new machine using Ventura that you won’t be able to rollback to monterrey, and chances are, you’ll still have issues with SU2022. I run the same machine, (ok, 500gb not 256), no crashes, even on weird files. Some people have really bad experiences with Ventura and SU 2022, at this point, the best course of action is to rollback to Monterrey, and in general, to NOT update the OS unless ALL your softwares says they are compatible. I experience crashes dozens of times a dayĪre you running ventura or monterrey ? I’m gonna bet Ventura. Or do I bide my time until the M2 Max Studio comes out? Cost will prohibit me from going to 64gb on the Studio. The M1 Max has 2x memory bandwidth (400gbps vs 200gbps on the M2 Pro), but the M2 Pro likely has slightly faster single core performance on both CPU and GPU, so unless I’m running an animation, I’m curious which will perform better for general daily modeling. I know the M2 Pro has not been released yet, but looking for some opinions on whether or not these decisions will make any impact on day to day performance. My dilemma: the new M2 Pro Mac mini vs last year’s M1 Max Mac Studio - when specced out with max RAM, 1tb HD, it’s essentially the same price of the Mac Studio. I understand both AutoCAD and SketchUp are single threaded applications and would not make use of high core counts on either the GPU or the CPU, unless I’m exporting an animation (we run ~10min animations on 100+ scenes with 4 second scene transitions, 1 second delays at 4k resolution, 30fps - beautiful videos!) I run CleanMyMac which constantly tells me I’m running out of RAM, and that’s usually when SketchUp crashes. I experience crashes dozens of times a day, likely due to the limited 16gb of ram, memory bandwidth of the M1, and the fact that we model homes with lots of detail and topography from surveyors and a decent amount of satellite imagery for context. I’m currently running SU '22 on an 8/8/16/256gb 2020 M1 mini and looking to upgrade to a new machine. ![]() ![]() Production data: A small by-product of Pt was reported.Īnalytical data results: Pt:Au = 1:25 on average. This is underscored by a mural on one wall that holds special significance for Byrd. “Our ‘fresh out of the water’ slogan is what we highlight, but things like the jerk chicken also show my dedication to the islands.” “I knew I wanted to bring a bit of Key West back to my hometown,” Byrd says. Island flavor is injected into a few staples, such as Caribbean jerk chicken, pallomilla steak, and whole fried fish, served alongside black beans, white rice, and plantains. Entrees include unusual offerings such as Byrd’s pho, the chef’s take on the traditional Vietnamese noodle soup with a choice of steak, shrimp, or oysters, and a house-made pasta with beef short rib. Oysters, fish, and shrimp also show up as filling choices for Dredge’s taco menu (along with Cuban pork). On the menu, oysters are the main attraction. He then jumped at an opportunity to take over the now-vacant restaurant space, opening Dredge in February of this year. After several years in Key West working in the restaurant industry, Byrd came back home and opened Byrd’s Seafood Co., a successful food truck. As a young boy, he helped his mother with odd jobs at the restaurant she managed, and later, as a teenager, he bussed tables in the very restaurant Dredge would one day replace. But underneath all that is a game that taps straight into the veins of all the classic PC staples, from town-building to real-time strategy battles. Naturally, it doesn't go so deep into these elements that it's going to trouble the very best games from those genres, but building up your titular kingdom, recruiting villagers from other towns to come and man special buildings and occasionally setting off to defend your lands from unwelcome intruders are all welcome additions and diversions to this otherwise fairly traditional JRPG. ![]() They're also way more engrossing than the Pokémon-style monster battling / collecting of its predecessor, Wrath Of The White Witch. ![]() Revenant Kingdom also improves on the shortcomings of White Witch by giving your AI-controlled companions an actual brain when it comes to taking care of themselves in combat. And Immortals Fenyx Rising deserves a shout out too, a sort of Assassin's Creed meets Zelda game. I know some people might make noise about there being an Assassin's Creed game on this list, but frankly I think I've shown restraint. The AC games had a bit of a renaissance starting with 2017's Origins, overhauling a lot of the core design and making the series from then on sharper, harder, and more interesting. In the process, Ubi brought the RPG elements to the surface, and Valhalla is arguably the pinnacle of the series and its new direction. Valhalla takes place in England in Anglo-Saxon times. It's a very alive yet melancholic landscape, very season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, and provides a great backdrop for the story of a Viking raider staking a claim in England that we know must, eventually be doomed. The main story is an epic with betrayal, gods, monsters, and extremely mythical end-game DLC if you fancy it. Eivor, a big buff blonde warrior of whichever gender you prefer, is a charismatic protagonist whichever way you slice it - although they do most of the slicing. There must be a hundred or more programs that can do the job of transforming a video from one format to the next but when I sat down with my very clever friend, Richard, he told me he uses Blackmagicdesign’s DaVinci Resolve to get the job done. ![]() During most of this time, I could rely on QuickTime Pro to get the transcode job done but when Apple announced they were dropping 32 bit software support, I started looking to other programs. Back then, I could create my own video files in real time with these sorts of products by ingesting 4:3 video (standard 4:3, anamorphic or letterbox) from Digital Betacam, Betacam SP, or Betacam SX but as was often the case, editors would supply me noncompliant video files I would have to transcode to work with my system. I’ve been transcoding my video files for 20 years or so, even prior to using capture and playback products like Doremi Labs’ SCSI HDD V1D or Canopus ADVC-100 or ADVC-1000 (the latter owned by Grass Valley) for creating and outputting the first DV files I used with my audio sessions. ![]() Ever had issues playing back video in your session? In This article, Damian Kearns demonstrates how to use the free DaVinci Resolve program to avoid slowdowns, crashes and glitches that commonly occur when using the wrong video codec in your DAW. ![]() |
